She Said Give Me Something To Do

Several years back, I was working Catering events at the University. This particular event was one of our bigger events and we were going to be hopping. With an event such as this, we had a set up location that was blocked off. We had several tables set up so we could clear tables and sort dishes more efficiently. There was this one student that loved to do the clean up (as long as we didn’t ask her to wait tables). She was impatient and suddenly she said, “Give me something to do”!

Wouldn’t that be refreshing? You are engaged with your online business and you are told this is what you need to do with your online business. Sometimes I feel like I am saying: Give me something to do! Then when I am told what to do, I think this is not how I want to do this. Or, I just don’t want to do it!

When you are hired for a job, you are given instructions regarding what you need to do and how to do it. Once learned, you continue until you are assigned to another assignment. As a business owner, ultimately, you are responsible for the business operations and procedures. This means “you get to set up what you need to do.

As a business owner, this is important regarding the operation of your online business. I have been in several businesses that I immediately adopt the mindset of: give me something to do. In a short period of time, I have hit bottom with their “procedures” and my new mindset is: I don’t want to do it that way!

Is this resonating with you?

Sometimes it is hard to be patient. I have found that out here with Compumatrix. Unfortunately, there has been so much that has had to be done and not mine to do that I have be very impatient. (This is the time to take a Holiday!)

However, at the same time, while I wait, I still can not stand to be idle so…..

In that time frame, I find other projects to occupy my time. This is when I have hit that wall of: I don’t want to do it that way! (Do you know what the NFL Club is? No Friends Left!) When someone tells be to grab a pen and start writing down everyone I know or don’t judge anyone or…., this is when I adopt: I don’t want to do it that way!

I have a plan. When I can operate that plan precisely, I will put it into operation. This plan will allow people to find me when they want what I am selling.
