The Single Hardest Thing for any Human to Do!
First of all, some think that learning is hard, that growing is hard, that becoming something other than what you are right now is hard. Well, what do you think, is it hard? Most say yes, for they have tried to learn new things, so they can have a future that comes with learning. Others say growing, or becoming more than you are now is very hard for who knows just exactly what steps to take when, and how, for if I knew this secret then I would be set for life.
Many more each year go to school, college, or prestigious universities to learn the things that seem to make others rich. Some go to trade schools, for the big money. And yet others do many things online, trying to make their mark, so they can be the next instant success.
Seems to me as though we have a ‘paradox’? A What? Well, my 1828 Webster’s Dictionary puts it this way: “ PAR’ADOX, n. [Gr. beyond, and opinion; to or suppose.]
A tenet or proposition contrary to received opinion, or seemingly absurd, yet true in fact.
Again I hear What? So I will ad a more modern definition: “: something (such as a situation) that is made up of two opposite things and that seems impossible but is actually true or possible
: someone who does two things that seem to be opposite to each other or who has qualities that are opposite
: a statement that seems to say two opposite things but that may be true”
So what am I saying? Simple actually, for you have lived your life thus far, and yet you feel you need to know more, why? Because some how you feel you do not have the information to improve your life as it is, and yet you hold on to your life as though it is all you have.
The real truth is this; You can not learn new things, or embrace new things if they are contrary to what you now know. In other words to believe in something new, you must first believe that there is something perhaps flawed in your old way of thinking, otherwise why do you have a problem to begin with.
Believe it or not this is why old business models stay around for decades or longer, no one can believe in anything other than the old stand by way of doing things, right? Of course, after all; “If it isn’t broken then don’t fix it.”
But, then that old system also does not allow for every possible situation or new ways of thinking, and this is what our story started with; “The Single hardest thing for any Human to do!”
And that is to forget what he has learned, in order to replace it with something new. I once was told in a class, on car batteries, that if you set the battery on the ground that the earth, or ground, will pull the charge right out of that battery, and kill it. Well, I told that nice young man that this was not true. And he said yes, it is, my grandfather said it was so, and so does my dad, and it has always worked. I said, OK, and then asked if he was open to an idea? He said OK, and we proceeded. I showed him 2 batteries, one new and one soiled and looking filthy. Both tested good. I put a volt meter to the tops of the batteries, the plastic part not the terminals. The dry, clean one read nothing. But the dirty one read voltage no matter where I touched it. And I explained that there was no magical magnetism that pulled the energy out of the batteries, but it was drained by a connection, a connection that went to ground. In a car if a battery is left long enough, dirty it will still die, and all were in agreement with that. So we left the new battery on the ground for a week, and when we came back it was still as charged as it ever was.
The sad part was that much latter, most of those who had seen the truth, quickly went back to their old beliefs about batteries.
With our new business, we must find trust in those who are going down a new untried path, and we must try to entertain the idea of success, and not allow the ideas of failure to enter in, for these are the same ideas that have kept us prisoner for our entire lives. Embrace the new, and run your new business as it is designed, and as if your life depends upon it. You have to embrace God and Faith the same way, or you are nothing more than words being repeated, and have no meaning.
You can walk a human to the fountain of knowledge, but you can not make them think; for themselves anyway. Another curious paradox. Sc ; )
